Roper St. Francis Hospital Taking Shape at Carnes Crossroads

January 25th, 2018

Berkeley County will soon have its first full-service hospital, and it’s taking shape right here at Carnes Crossroads. Construction crews recently placed the final beam on Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital, marking a development milestone for the new building. The hospital will be an important component of our master planned community, offering residents here and from across the region convenient access to comprehensive medical services right in their backyard. Construction is on track for the hospital to open in late 2019.

Roper’s 90-acre medical campus is bordered by North Main Street and St. James Avenue in the heart of our community. The 50-bed hospital will include an emergency department, maternity and surgical services, radiology and imaging services and more. Also under construction is an adjacent medical office building that will open later this year. There is space on the campus for additional facilities to be added as the needs of the greater community evolve. It’s all part of the Roper St. Francis healthcare system, Charleston’s only private, not-for-profit hospital system.

“We’re honored that Roper St. Francis — one of the most respected medical providers in the region — chose Carnes Crossroads as the location for their expansion into Berkeley County,” says Matt Sloan, President of the Daniel Island Company, the master developer for Carnes Crossroads. “Convenient access to quality healthcare is something every thoughtfully planned community needs, and we are proud that Carnes Crossroads is becoming a center for medical services for our area.”

With essential services like a school, church, medical services – and soon, a hospital – Carnes Crossroads has a strong foundation for becoming a convenient new center in Berkeley County where people can work, live, learn and play.
